The emotional consequences of poor service can be devastating and make homebuying more stressful, says Legal Ombudsman Adam Sampson.

The ombudsman highlighted certain practices in the selling of conveyancing services.
Often conveyancing services are marketed on the basis of “no sale no fee”, and yet the ombudsman reports one such case where a seller was landed with a £10,000.00 bill.
Another tactic used to sell conveyancing services is a cheap “headline price”, sometimes as low as £99.00. Dig deeper and you will often find other additional fees which bring the costs up enormously, such as costs for dealing with mortgages and stamp duty, which are inseparable parts of the conveyancing process.
The ombudsman also criticised “conveyancing factories”, which in our experience generally provide a poor quality and impersonal service.
Abacus Solicitors specialise in providing a high quality and personal residential conveyancing service at a competitive and transparent cost.
